Benin | Stato dell' Africa centro occidentale dal nome del fiume Benin che diede il nome anche ad un fiorente Impero del Benin localizzato in un area più interna rispetto all' attuale Repubblica del Benin. |
Dahomey | Dahomey deriva dalla parola Dan Homè Ouegbe=La Casa sul Ventre di Dan da cui derivò il nome del Dahomey oggi Benin. Secondo la leggenda il re di Abomey Dacko litigò col fratello Ouegbadge e volendo ingrandire il suo regno si rivolse ad un diplomatico di nome Dan che esclamò " Ma tu vuoi costruire sul mio ventre" vista la richiesta così esorbitante. Ouegbadge allora uccise Dan e Dacko. Presso la tomba di Dan costruì il suo Palazzo e da qui l'iscrizione Dan Homè Ougbe. |
